The first grapes of the 2008 vintage were picked around 20 September in Burgundy under glorious sunshine, but the real harvesting began around 25 September.

The majority of this year’s Chardonnay is still in fermentation at present. While it is still too early to determine the full profile, the first impressions of the professionals suggest a powerful vintage with good balance and a highly flattering aromatic potential.

The first Pinot Noir juices tasted confirm the complexity of this red vintage. The wine-makers will be required to exercise great finesse. While the colours appear at times discreet, at times pronounced, and the tannins have strong presence, the vintage seems to be primarily characterised by its great aromatic richness, the nose developing elegant and highly pronounced notes of red and black fruit.

A result of this kind could not have been expected without a little help from the elements. The north wind blowing through the vineyards from 14 September accompanied the sun and allowed the grapes to achieve greater maturity and concentration. This came as a great relief to the wine-growers, who thus regained their hopes of a great vintage…, something they had not expected in early September.
