Stuart Todd – EU Member States have agreed a compromise with France over the production methods allowed for rosé wines.Rosé wines sold in the EU will have to be labelled to distinguish those made from the traditional ‚maceration‘ method and those produced by blending red and white wines, the European Commission said this week.
The move comes after Provence rosé producers and the French government complained about EU plans to legalise the production of rosé by blending red and white wines.Provence rosé, which constitutes 5% of world rosé production, is only made using maceration.
The EU hopes to approve the blending technique by 1 August 2009. In the meantime, the draft directive has been sent to the World Trade Organisation for consultation by non-EU countries.

Ich werde – ab Sonntag den 29. März 2009 – von meinen Verkostungen der 2008er Weine, aus Bordeaux berichten. Samstag den 28.März werde Abends im Hotel ankommen & am Sonntag geht es dann los. Ehrlich gesagt, ich weiss nicht ob das alles zeitlich klappt mit dem Tagebuch, wie ich mir das vorstelle.
Es wurde diskutiert die 2008er Kampagne gar nicht stattfinden zu lassen, nun findet sie definitiv statt. Ein paar Highlights wie eine eigens organisierte Keller-Probe auf Lafaurie-Peyraguey und ein paar sehr alte Sauternes, kann ich jetzt schon versprechen. Aber nicht die Sensation ist meine Sache, sondern ich versuche, soviel es geht an Tendenzen, Probenotizen & Fundiertem über den 2008 BDX Jahrgang zu erarbeiten.
Was man allgemein vorweg hört, ist, dass die trockenen Weißweine sehr gut sein sollen, die Sauternes ganz allgemein in der Kategorie der 2007 – evtl. etwas darunter sich bewegen und die Rotweine sich nicht so schlecht sind wie angenommen. ABER: Das alles & auch die Bewertungen, die nach den Verkostungen folgen werden, sind mit Vorsicht zu geniessen & nur als erste Richtung zu sehen.

Joachim Heger (Weingut Dr. Heger) wurde von den Mitgliedern des VDP Baden im Februar 2009 einstimmig zum ersten Vorsitzenden gewählt und löst damit den bisherigen langjährigen Amtsinhaber Claus Burmeister (Weingut Burg Ravensburg) ab.
Im Jubiläumsjahr des Silvaners (350 Jahre) freut sich der Kaiserstühler Winzer über das ihm entgegen gebrachte Vertrauen.
Die anstehenden Aufgaben, die er geme gemeinsam mit den Mitgliedern umsetzen möchte, erfordern ein zukunftsorientiertes Handeln. Dabei stehen ihm als Stellvertreter Roy Blankenhorn (Weingut Blankenhorn) und Markus Wöhrle (Weingut Stadt Lahr) zur Seite.

The brewer said yesterday (18 March) that it plans to put Christophe Navarre forward at its AGM next month to join its board. If approved, Navarre would hold the position for a period of four years. Currently president and CEO of Moët Hennessy, Navarre was president of Jas Hennessy & Co from 1997 to 2001. Prior to this, hee held a number of senior finance and market president positions with Interbrew, including president of the Italian and French operating businesses and CFO of the Belgian business.
