Stuart Todd – Trade body the Union des Côtes de Bordeaux (UCB) has created a Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, describing the move as a „revolution in the organisation of Bordeaux appellations.“ The label will replace four appellations – the AOC Premières Côtes de Blaye, Premières Côtes de Bordeaux, Côtes de Castillon and Côtes de Francs. The new appellation will have a volume of 700,000 hl – one-sixth of Bordeaux’s wine production. UCB said that the move responds to the „multiplicity of appellations“, which may confuse consumers overseas.
