PPORTUGAL: Symington Family Estates declares 2007 vintage Port

Tag: Länder,Regionensigi.hiss @ 19:32 editorial team – Port producer Symington Family Estates has declared its 2007 vintage and plans to release a limited number of bottles on the US market this summer. Oporto-based Symington said today (31 March) that it plans to release 2007 Ports from a range of its houses, including W&J Graham’s, Dow’s and Smith Woodhouse, in the US this summer.

„Our 2007 Vintage Ports have the characteristic power, complexity and balance that guarantee they will improve for many decades to come,“ said joint-managing director Rupert Symington. A Port vintage is only ‚declared‘ when it is believed to be of exceptional quality. On average, a Port vintage is only ‚declared‘ three times per decade. The last declaration came in 2005, for the 2003 vintage, Symington said.

Exports of Port fell by 5% in volume last year due to the economic downturn in the fortified wine’s key UK and US markets, George Sandeman, vice president of the Port Institute (IVDP), told just-drinks in January.
