FRANCE: Moët Hennessy to build Champagne facility

Stuart Todd – Moët Hennessy, the wine and spirits division of French luxury goods firm LVMH, is set to build a state-of-the-art logistics centre for its Champagne brands. Commercial property developer Goodman has announced that it is investing an estimated EUR25m (US$32.5m) in the centre, to be based at Recy, near Châlons-en-Champagne. US wine market: value falls, volume rises

Richard Woodard – Americans are buying cheaper wine, as sales by value in the US fell for the first time in 15 years.

Kracher reviving spätlese wine

Darrel Joseph in Vienna – Austrian wine producer Gerhard Kracher has just released his first Spätlese wine -the Kracher Spätlese 2008. Kracher, who now runs the Laubenhof wine estate, made famous by his father, the late sweet wine legend Alois Kracher, has made the wine using a blend of Pinot gris, Welschriesling and Muskat Ottonel grapes. Bordeaux 2008: Leoville Barton sold out

Jane Anson in Bordeaux – Chateau Leoville Barton has already sold 85% of its production, having released its price this morning. Owner Anthony Barton released at €23 per bottle this morning, down from €27 last year.

GERMANY: German Wine Institute signs Lufthansa deal

Champagne boss calls for massive cut in yields

Giles Fallowfield – A senior Champagne boss has called for yields to be slashed for the 2009 harvest.
