Wine pricing remains under pressure - Rabobank

Oversupply on the global wine market and discounting by retailers threaten to derail positive signs in the US wine sector, according to investment banking group Rabobank.

There has been a „marked improvement“ in sales of wine priced over US$15 per bottle in the US in the first six months of 2010, Rabobank said in its Wine Quarterly report this week.

Its report underpins recent optimistic comments from some of the largest wine firms operating in the country, including Foster’s Group and Constellation Brands. Continue reading „US: Wine prices face long road to recovery – Research“

Graham Beck dies

Tag: Personen,Weingütersigi.hiss @ 11:27

Graham Beck by Richard Woodard – Tributes have been pouring in to Graham Beck, one of the pioneers of the modern South African wine industry, who has died at the age of 80.
Beck, a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist, died on Tuesday morning in London with his wife Rhona at his side, after a battle with lung cancer.

Following an early involvement in renovations, he spent 15 years working in the mining industry, before buying a stud farm in Robertson in 1976 – and then entering the wine business with the purchase of Madeba farm in 1983.

A constant champion of Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wines, Graham Beck Wines became a substantial business with the purchase of properties in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Continue reading „Graham Beck dies“
