Decanter: New wine film to lift lid on China and Bordeaux

Tag: Ländersigi.hiss @ 08:51

by Adam Lechmere -A new wine documentary exploring the relationship between Bordeaux and China is in production.

Presented by Andrew Caillard MW of Australian auctioneers Langton’s, The Fine Wine Game aims to ‘explore the phenomenon that is China and the burgeoning interest in Bordeaux,’ producer Warwick Ross told

Production will take place over the next year, with filming starting in Bordeaux for next month’s En Primeur tastings, and going on to cover four seasons of wine production in the region.

The team will spend time in China’s Shandong province where the majority of major Chinese – and western – wine producers are found. Chateau Lafite owns 25ha of wines there, in a region which has some 10,000ha of vines planted.

‘We also want to explore the idea of a Chinese bubble – if there is one – and how far it can go,’ Ross said. Caillard said, ‘We want to capture the scent and voice of Bordeaux; its wines, its people, and those that follow its progress with such energetic passion.’

The Fine Wine Game is directed by Warwick Ross, who owns Portsea Wine Estates on the Mornington Peninsula, and David Roach. The two have produced several successful films in Australia including the recent Beneath Hill 60, Young Einstein, Reckless Mr Kelly, and Mr Accident.
