Tag: Allgemeinessigi.hiss @ 21:09

Inauguration of the winery at Château Cheval Blanc

Tag: Weingütersigi.hiss @ 20:33

There are some exceptional wines in the world. Cheval Blanc is one of them.
Its unique and geologically complex terroir bears witness to a history that dates back to the beginning of the Quaternary Period and the sediments of the nearby river Isle. The patchwork terroir consists of clay, sand and gravel. The unusual proportion of Cabernet Franc, combined with Merlot, gives Cheval Blanc a unique and timeless identity, producing a wine which has the capacity to be good at any age. wine-business-international.com: The Bordeaux wine bubble is fizzing

Tag: Regionensigi.hiss @ 09:23
Victoria MooreThe Bordeaux wine bubble is fizzing up, up and away. A leading claret has raised its price for the 2010 vintage by 39 per cent, reports Victoria Moore.
If anyone thought the warning of American wine critic, Robert Parker – dubbed ‚the pope of the vineyards’ – to the Bordelais this week to be modest with release prices of the 2010 Bordeaux vintage or risk facing a ‚financial crisis’ in the “fragile global economy” was going to calm matters, they counted without the swagger of Chateau Pontet Canet.

“How do I decide on the price and timing of the sortie?” Alfred Tesseron, who runs the super-cinquième – the Chateau was placed as a 5th growth in the famous 1855 classification but its reputation has soared way beyond its ranking – said to me when I visited in April for the annual barrel-sample-tasting circus that precedes the release of prices. “I wait for suddenly one day I wake up and I know what I think.” Continue reading „wine-business-international.com: The Bordeaux wine bubble is fizzing“

By Henry Samuel, Paris

Wine-lovers to end affair with Bordeaux over ‚vintage of century‘ price rises! One of the world’s most influential wine critic, Robert Parker, has warned that wine-lovers of the Western world could end their affair with Bordeaux should its chateaux raise prices on their latest vintage once again.

Mr Parker, dubbed „the pope of the vineyards“ due to the influence his wine notes wield, said Bordeaux would play a „very dangerous game“ if it decided to raise prices for the 2010 vintage. Many Bordeaux producers, and some critics, hailed 2009 the „vintage of the century“ after near-perfect climatic conditions, and prices for the top growths reached record highs. Decanter: Champagne 2011 harvest could be earliest since 2003

Tag: Regionensigi.hiss @ 09:05

by Giles Fallowfield – August holidays have been cancelled in Champagne in anticipation of a very early harvest, possibly the earliest on record – especially if the warm weather of March to the end of May continues. Flowering was generally completed before the end of May and in some places the vines were in full flower by 21 May.

Adding 92 days – the average time over the past decade in Champagne between flowering and the start of the harvest—picking could start on 22 August. However because August is usually warmer and has more sun than September, it is possible the period between flowering may be even shorter, at just 80 days, which means the first grapes may be cut on August 16.

The lack of rain also tends to accelerate the date, Louis Roederer winemaker Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon said, adding that he ‘would be ready to start from August’. Continue reading „Decanter: Champagne 2011 harvest could be earliest since 2003“
