The magnificent 120-year-old wine is auctioned for € 50,000 at the Festival’s most anticipated event. Continuing its longstanding support of international cinema, Moët & Chandon, the champagne of success and glamour since 1743, last night auctioned a luxurious coffret of its legendary champagne Grand Vintage Collection 1893 at the 20th annual amfAR Gala, Cinema Against AIDS. Held during the 66th Cannes Film Festival, Moët & Chandon’s 120-year-old treasure was auctioned for €50,000 with proceeds benefitting lifesaving AIDS research.

The star-studded amfAR Gala is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the Cannes Film Festival, and is widely considered the Festival’s most exclusive athering. Moët & Chandon, the official champagne of the amfAR Gala, hosted and toasted the cinema world’s most successful celebrities at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, including Sharon Stone, Jessica Chastain, Christoph Waltz, Adrian Brody, Milla Jovovich and many others.

Grand Vintage Collection 1893 is the celebration of a single year that was exceptional in both quantity and quality, and is part of the living history of Moët & Chandon. A matchless creation and the ultimate celebration of the world’s most luxurious wine, Grand Vintage Collection 1893 is the preservation of an unforgettable moment in time. Lightly golden and surprisingly clear for a 120-year-old wine, the first aromas suggest panettone, mixed with brioche and candied, crystallized fruits. Very ripe pear and banana notes follow, and finally the champagne reinforces its maturity with roasted notes – coffee grains, chocolate powder, chestnut cream. On the palate, while the effervescence is discreet, the wine remains warmly unctuous and smooth, finishing with notes of licorice.

“The Cannes Film Festival and the amfAR Gala embody the success of the world’s best cinema and the glamour of the world’s biggest movie stars,” said Stéphane Baschiera, President and CEO of Moët & Chandon. “As the champagne of cinema, Moët & Chandon is honored to celebrate this grand occasion with the cinema world, and to share the legendary Grand Vintage Collection 1893 in a spirit of generosity.”

Moët & Chandon is synonymous with the glamour of fabulous celebration and has a long tradition of being present at Hollywood’s most prestigious events. The House has toasted the achievement of generations of the cinema’s most legendary actors and directors at international film festivals, creating fabulous elebrations for the magical world of cinema.
